He and NC State have been discussing a new contract for several weeks without reaching an agreement, although a deal could come soon, according to sources.
Doeren said he's getting a new contract with NC State and is thrilled the school has faith in him.
The coach, who turns 46 on Sunday, is 33-30 in five seasons at North Carolina State. Later Thursday, NC State's Board of Trustees made the news official, announcing it will hold a session on Friday to formally approve the terms of Doeren's new contract.
N.C. State is 8-4 and ranked No. 24 in the College Football Playoff poll.
ABC 11 reported that players at NC State's Murphy Football Center received a text from Doeren informing them that he was staying at the school he's coached since 2012.
