While we know Brie Larson is playing Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel for her eponymous film, we didn't know who would play the DC Comics version of the character in the proposed Shazam! movie, one of the many DC movies in development.
The upcoming Shazam! will center around Billy Batson, an everyday teen whose life is flipped upside down when he learns that he has the power to transform into a god-like (and adult-aged) superhero simply by saying a single word: "Shazam!". But is was Zachary Levi who won out for the coveted role.
The character first appeared in Whiz Comics back in 1940 and was the most popular superhero of that decade, outselling even Superman.

The actor, best known for NBC's Chuck, will star in the DC comic book adaptation "Shazam", reports The Hollywood Reporter. In 1972, DC licensed the Marvel Family characters from Fawcett and returned them to publication. Shazam is reportedly going to be shot between February 2018 until May 2018. The horror prequel Annabelle, which belongs to The Conjuring universe was made with a budget of $15 million and has so far earned a whopping $303 million worldwide.
Levi reportedly won a tight race against contenders such as WWE wrestler John Cena, Zane Holtz (From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series), Derek Theler (ABC Family's Baby Daddy), Billy Magnussen (Bridge of Spies), and actor Jake McDorman (American Sniper, Limitless TV series), all of whom were eyeing to get the role.
The title role in DC's "Shazam!" has been filled, with an unlikely contender taking the reigns on the job.
