"Equifax has been intensely investigating the scope of the intrusion with the assistance of a leading, independent cybersecurity firm to determine what information was accessed and who has been impacted", said Equifax, in its progress report revealing the issue. Equifax noted last week its security was breached between mid-May and July, before finally noticing the hack on July 29.
The credit reporting behemoth has pinpointed the vulnerability in its system that hackers exploited in taking the personal information of 143 million Americans.
A bipartisan group of 36 USA senators recently called for an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission into the sale of approximately $2 million in Equifax securities held by company management prior to the news release of a large-scale network cybersecurity breach. "However, in light of the intense public interest and the potential impact of this matter, I can confirm that FTC staff is investigating the Equifax data breach".
Evacuated Across Russia After Wave of Bomb Threats
Initial reports indicated that the evacuations might have been some kind of exercise. When asked about the matter, a Kremlin spokesman referred reporters to the police.
